The Repository is an independent news publication covering the WordPress ecosystem, from its community and businesses to the open source project at the centre of it all.
WordPress powers more than 40% of the web. Decisions about how it’s built and governed ripple out to millions of websites and the people who depend on them. A platform that size deserves serious journalism.
The Repository started in 2019 as a weekly email digest. By 2024, a roundup wasn’t enough. WordPress was navigating business consolidation, the rise of AI, a shifting events landscape, and questions about the project’s governance and direction. The ecosystem needed a trade publication, so that’s what The Repository became.
Today, it covers business and enterprise, community and events, plugins and themes, products and security, and how all of it connects back to the project itself, with in-depth reporting and analysis for developers, business owners, and contributors.

Our Name
“The Repository” means two things to WordPress people. The WordPress.org repository is where plugins and themes live, maintained by the community and open to everyone. It’s also what we are — a repository of record for WordPress news, reporting, and history. Built for the ecosystem, by people who live it.

Rae Morey | Publisher & Editor-in-Chief
Rae Morey is a journalist, marketer, and communications specialist with two decades of experience across news, open source, creative tech, and government. As the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of The Repository, she leads independent reporting on the WordPress ecosystem, uncovering the stories that shape the industry. Her interest in WordPress is driven by a curiosity about business and community, a love of storytelling, and fostering conversations that drive positive change. Beyond journalism, Rae has led strategic communications and marketing efforts for organizations inside and outside the WordPress space, helping businesses refine their messaging and build meaningful connections.
Mike Johnston | Proofreader
